Bicycling.com map contributor Viktor Ohnjec turned in this ride in eastern Pennsylvania.

Located less than an hour west of Philadelphia, this century ride through southeastern Pennsylvania’s quaint countryside serves up miles of rural riding on lightly-traveled, cyclist-friendly roads. From the Center for Alternative Secondary Education near Embreeville, head south through Embreeville County Park to begin your ride. Within the first several miles, you’ll hit several short climbs (most are less than two miles). Though devoid of any major ascents, the ride includes 3,000 feet of climbing and is peppered with quick hills.

After cresting one of these hills, fly down Frog Hollow Road en route to Speakman Bridge, a covered bridge built in 1881. Then, glide through 14 miles of farmland and forest as you near Chatham, a tiny community with less than 600 residents. After winding back toward Embreeville, the route snakes to the south, passing through the small towns of Hamorton and Rosedale before crossing into Delaware.

Heading north back into Pennsylvania, you’ll pedal through lusciously thick woodlands that trace the rambling Red Clay Creek. Continue slicing through dense forest while heading north on Chandler Mill Road and then looping back to the south on Sharp Road. During the ride’s southwest portion, you’ll spin through more countryside, passing the occasional town, before returning to Chatham. From here, backtrack to Embreeville County Park to complete the ride.
